At the technological exhibition CES 2019, Hyundai demonstrated Elevate concept car, equipped with only wheels, but also robotic legs, with the help of which can walk around rough terrain at a speed of 5 km / h.
One of the largest automakers argues that the model presented is part of the project exploring the prospects for the movement of «outside the wheels», and it took its development for three years. Automated limbs have six degrees of freedom and are designed to move in extreme conditions or in emergency situations, for example, overcoming fragments after tsunami or earthquake.
The new generation SUV will be able to rise to a wall with a height of 1.5 m or step over an opening of the same length. In addition to use in rescue operations, it can be used as an ordinary electric car, and if necessary, activate additional features. According to Hyundai Vice-President John Su, the vehicle will help people on wheelchairs, rising directly to the entrance of the building, without force them to descend along the steps.
In the concept of Hyundai Elevate, the company proposes to think about the new type of mobility. However, despite the presented model, there are a lot of technological problems that the automaker has to be solved to embody in a person.
